Credit Card Confusion

Overview

In late October, Stephanie received a Debix Instant Authorization™ request for a new credit card. Because she had not applied for a new credit card recently, the request was declined by Stephanie and reported as fraud. The national bank who initiated the request was immediately notified the account was an attempt of fraud and the account was not opened. Stephanie was protected.

A month later, on November 11, 2007, another national bank initiated an Instant Authorization request for Stephanie. For the second time in one month, Stephanie received a request for a new credit card. The request was declined and reported as fraud. The bank was notified and the attempt of fraud was stopped.

The Debix Response

In each instance, the Debix OnCall Investigation Team engaged with Stephanie and verified with the national banks that the accounts were not opened. One of the national banks had an existing relationship with Stephanie and was thankful that the Debix Network had prevented the attack.

As the team investigated the attacks, they established that the name and Social Security Number belonged to Stephanie, but the address that was used was not a recognized address. This piece of information, in conjunction with other details, was passed on to the appropriate law enforcement organization.

The Debix team also assisted Stephanie in obtaining a copy of her Credit Report from each Credit Bureau to verify no other fraud had been committed in her name. The Debix Identity Protection Network™ had been successful in protecting Stephanie and keeping her identity safe.
